Caravel Vera Cruz can be visited for free at Faro

The ship will be open to visits from schools, associations and the general public

The Vera Cruz caravel, a replica of «the most important Portuguese ship of the XNUMXth century», will be available for viewing at the Commercial Port of Faro from Monday, the 20th, until Friday.

The ship will be open to free visits for schools, associations and the general public from 10:00 am to 17:00 pm, «with the exception of the 24th, when a workshop for creatives will be organized by Museu0, one of the Algarve's regional partners, along with the Regional Coordination and Development Commission, Algarve Regional Directorate for Culture, Algarve Municipalities Association and QRER Cooperative», according to APORVELA – Portuguese Sail Training Association, partner of the cross-border project “Magallanes: Entrepreneurship of Cultural and Industries Criativas”, within which this initiative takes place.

"This is a unique opportunity to visit one of the most important vessels on Portuguese voyages in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries and learn more about Portuguese navigation techniques, commercial and exploration routes or life aboard the caravels", he adds. Association.

This replica caravel in particular, named Vera Cruz, was built in the shipyards of Vila do Conde, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil, and launched in 2000.

The cross-border project “Magallanes: Entrepreneurship in Cultural and Creative Industries” is financed by the Operational Program for Cross-border Cooperation Spain-Portugal (INTERREG-POCTEP) and will allow «the promotion of these industries in the Algarve, with the creation of itineraries, centers and laboratories, networks “collaboratives” and, in this way, “expand the economic fabric in the area of ​​culture and the arts” in the region.

Magallanes_ICC started in 2019 and «will materialize in the creation of several physical spaces of international reference where, through guidance and advice, entrepreneurship, the emergence of new ideas and the implementation of innovative technological, cultural and creative companies will be supported and promoted in cross-border territory'.
