Monchique: Open Day for all who want to know the archeological site of Esgravatadouro

At the top of the hill, there is a Neolithic sepulchral monument, more than 5000 years old.

An “open day” to the population, in which all those interested can visit the archaeological excavation that is taking place in Esgravatadouro, Monchique, will take place on Friday, August 13, between 8:00 am and 13:00 pm.

In addition to being able to visit the archaeological excavation and having the opportunity to view a Neolithic tomb monument, visitors will have the opportunity to contact the archeology team investigating the monument and, in this context, receive information about this funerary reality with more than 5000 years.

Registration is not required, interested parties just need to show up at the site between 08:00 am and 13:00 pm.

The coordinates for the monument are as follows: latitude 37º17'9.142″N ; longitude 8º32'25.507″W.

Directions to get there: on the road to Monchique, in the Caldas de Monchique area, there is a sign that says Esgravatadouro, next to the old restaurant “O Rouxinol”.

You will have to walk this tarred path for approximately 1300 meters. Before reaching the Esgravatadouro crossing (about 200 meters before), there is a dirt path on the right, which will be marked with a red ribbon. The grave is at the top of this hill, so follow the dirt path and take the first left turn to the top of the hill (about 200 meters).
