This is a collective exhibition of photography and literary texts by various European artists

The exhibition “Europe at Home”, a collective exhibition of photography and literary texts by various European artists, is on until 31 August at the AlgarveShopping shopping centre.

This exhibition aims to «unite different European cities and bring an artistic perspective on the particular moment in which we live mostly “at home” (#EuropeAtHome)», says a press release sent by AlgarveShopping to the newsrooms.

Visitors to this shopping center will have the opportunity to see works by 54 artists from 27 European cities, photographers and writers, as well as access other content via smartphone as each piece has associated QR Codes that allow access to more detailed information about each city , artist and work.

Among the authors are two Portuguese: Sandro William Junqueira and Vasco Célio.

Sandro William Junqueira is a writer, director and teacher of dramatic expression, having published several novels, including “No Céu Não Há Limões” (2014, finalist for the APE Award – Portuguese Association of Writers) and “When Giraffes Lower the Neck” (2017, finalist in the SPA Awards – Portuguese Society of Authors).

In terms of photography, exhibits the Portuguese photographer Vasco Célio who has pursued a continuous search for a documentary look at his country, Europe and Africa. It has several photographic publications, individual and collective exhibitions, commissioned by different institutions, curators, researchers, and other artists.

The “Europe at Home” project and this exhibition are part of the application of Faro the European Capital of Culture 2027.

The city of Faro, through the 'Faro2027', invited several European cities, which present culture as one of their main axes of development, to decode this particular moment in history through the photographs of artists and through the texts of literary authors.

Each city participating in the “Europe at Home” project invited a photographer and a writer to produce images and texts that portray the experience of latent social isolation in the daily lives of their communities, a consequence of the pandemic crisis.

Since 2020, the “Europe at Home” network has been increasing so that “what was a digital-only project now takes on a new form in the first exhibition in the region and the country”.

The exhibition is part of “Cultura no Centro”, the Sonae Sierra project, which aims to support artists and cultural entities, at national and local level.

Throughout 2021, various artistic activities and events will be held at AlgarveShopping, in order to make culture accessible to all visitors to the shopping centre.
