Câmara de Lagos considers the requalification of Ponta da Piedade as a «relevant public interest»

Ponta da Piedade will have a new network of footpaths, walkways and viewpoints

The Lagos City Council recognized the Ponta da Piedade requalification project as being of relevant public interest. The decision was taken by majority vote of the councilors who participated in the meeting held on August 18th.

According to the Municipality of Lagos, «with this decision, one more stage of the set of procedures related to the collection of opinions and authorizations from the entities of the deconcentrated administration of the State and the Government necessary for the viability of all the components of the project has been completed, as this is the case. of an intervention predominantly located in areas of the Maritime Public Domain and the National Ecological Reserve (REN)».

The new network of pedestrian paths, walkways and viewpoints and the regeneration of natural spaces between Praia da Dona Ana and the Farol is in the process of awarding the work, so, explains the autarchy, «the recognition of the relevant municipal public interest is crucial to enable the various planned actions, which include, among others, the ordering of traffic and the improvement of the Ponta da Ponta road da Piedade, the implementation of a cycle path and the creation of new parking areas».

The procedure for recognizing the relevant public interest, for actions that cannot be carried out properly in areas not integrated into REN, will now be considered and voted on in the Municipal Assembly of Lagos, culminating «with the obtaining of the order of the responsible member of the government for the area of ​​environment and land use planning», concludes the City Council.
