Maria João Gomes' “Entranced Art” is shown at the Museu do Traje de São Brás

The artisan's workshop is installed in the museum

Maria João Gomes, the creator of the brand «Palmas Douradas», shows her pieces in the exhibition “Arte Entrançada”, which can be seen until the 31st of August, at the Museu do Traje, in São Brás de Alportel.

It was out of curiosity that Maria João Gomes took her first steps in the art of creating more or less utilitarian objects with the palm work, which she harvested in the fields of the Algarve, from the dwarf palm tree, and which has become a real passion.

With a letter from an artisan and creator of the “Palmas Douradas” brand, in 2015, the artisan is currently installed at the Museu do Traje, a place where she presents her work and holds craft workshops, being an ambassador of the Algarve palm in the world.

Maria João Gomes has several partnerships with Portuguese and foreign designers in the field of haute couture, as well as representations of her articles in renowned spaces in Portugal and France. It also exports its works to several countries.

In 2019, Maria João Gomes participated in the RTP1 program “The artisan”, having, during her participation, taught the entire process of working with contract to several candidates. Their participation and teachings contributed to the perpetuation of this traditional art through the future artisans chosen in the program.
