Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira is forbidden to bathe

The red flag was raised

The bursting of a sewer pipe in Albufeira, which caused a discharge of waste water into the sea, led, in the late afternoon of Monday, the 19th, to the ban on bathing at Praia dos Pescadores, in that city.

According to the Maritime Authority, the alert was received at 18:00, by a lifeguard, informing that, under the jetty, water with a brownish color was coming out, presenting an intense odor, and elements of the Maritime Police Station in Albufeira.

Upon reaching the beach, they confirmed the presence of brownish and bad-smelling water on the beach, and the red flag was hoisted, as indicated by the Captain of the Port and Local Commander of the Maritime Police of Portimão.

The Portuguese Environment Agency was contacted, which will carry out water quality analyses, keeping the beach forbidden to bathing until the results of the analyses are released.

The Maritime Authority adds that the Municipality of Albufeira was also informed.
