Masters from Lagoa Académico Clube win 12 Medals at XXII National Championship

The Masters swimmers from Lagoa Académico Clube (LAC) were the Algarve's highest ranked team with the highest number of podiums (3 Gold Medals, 6 Silvers, 3 Bronzes) in the XXII National Masters Championship, which took place between 9 and 11 of July, in Famalicão.

In the competition, 52 clubs and 421 athletes participated.

The LAC team won 14th place (126 points), Portinado 18th (120 points) and O2 Portimão (32 points).

The “masters” swimming project at Lagoa Académico Clube began this season and promotes swimming for adults aged 25 and over, who participate in regional and national pure swimming and open water competitions.

The team, made up of five swimmers (three female and two male), had an excellent participation, reaching 16 personal records, where the following results stand out:

>>Ana Barbara – 100 Moth – 1:53,14 – 2nd Class./100 Back – 1:48,89 – 2nd Class./ 200 Back -3:50,50 – 3 Class.

>>Paulo Sousa – 800 Freestyles – 11:36,64 – 1st Class./ 400 Styles – 6:33,20 – 1st Class./ 200 Styles – 3:01,38 – 2nd Class./ 400 Freestyles – 5:31,47 – 2nd Class./ 200 Freestyle – 2:34,09 – 3rd Class.

>>Susana Trindade – 100 Back – 1st Class./ 50 Back – 40.04 – 2nd Class./ 100 Freestyles – 1:20,58 – 2nd Class./ 50 Freestyles – 34.14 – 4th Class.

>>Filipe Santos – 50 Back – 43.77 – 3rd Class. / 100 Moth – 1:24,12 – 5th Class. / 50 Moth – 33.99 – 5th Class.

>>Helena Ribeiro – 800 Freestyle – 15:48,08 – 4th Class. / 50 Back – 40,04 – 2nd Class. / 100 Freestyles – 1:30,00 – 4th Class./ 50 Freestyles – 39,48 – 5th Class.

This event marks the end of the season of masters in pure swimming events, and these swimmers will now participate in the events of the National Open Water Circuit. On the 22nd of August, Lagoa hosts one of the stages of this competition, in Praia Grande (Ferragudo).
