An octopus, a blue shark, an angry moray or one of the symbols of the Ria Formosa, the seahorse. All these underwater beings from the Algarve coast are exposed outdoors, in Jardim Manuel Bivar, in Faro, in large format photos by João Rodrigues, awarded in several international competitions and regular contributor to the magazine National Geographic.

The images of the «Asul Profundo» exhibition are presented in a set of ten exhibition structures that house 18 photographs, arranged throughout the garden and accessible to those who pass by and who now have «a pretext to stop and enjoy the fauna and flora that despite of being close to us, we cannot enjoy it in such a close and intimate way as we are now».

Information about each photograph can be consulted by tablet or smartphone, using QR-codes.

The exhibition is curated by ALFA – Associação Livre Photographers do Algarve, which developed the design of the structures in collaboration with a company from Olhão, having invited renowned photographer João Rodrigues, who also directed the film “Horses of Guerra”, which portrays the seahorses of the Ria Formosa and with which he was distinguished at various environmental film festivals.

The promoter of the exhibition is the City Council of Faro, which seeks, with this initiative, greater enjoyment of outdoor spaces and the continuation of initiatives aimed at energizing the city of Faro as candidate for the European Capital of Culture 2027.

For ALFA, this street exhibition and the completion of the exhibition structures project are «an important milestone for the association, because it not only contributes to a wide dissemination of photography to a universal audience, which often does not feel interested in visiting a gallery , but who likes to appreciate photography», as the association demonstrates «is prepared for the new exhibition challenges that favor outdoor spaces, due to the pandemic context in which we live».

The street exhibition «Asul Profundo», will be open until October and naturally open 24 hours a day, and its subsequent placement in other places in the municipality is planned.
