Barlavento Algarvio returns to produce cans

Conserveira do Arade bets on production with ingredients purchased from local producers

The first sardine can produced in decades, in the Barlavento Algarvio region, is signed by Conserveira do Arade and is called Papa Anzóis. Marketing starts this Tuesday, the 27th of July.

Conserveira do Arade, also known as Saboreal, produced, during the second quarter of this year, the first canned sardines in the Barlavento Algarve in years.

Through this new range of products, the company bets on the recovery of an important part of the culture of the Arade basin. The young team, full of ideas and plans for the future, emphasizes their taste for "the manual of fish conservation processes".

Manuel Mendes and Vincent Jonckheere believe they have found the recipe for «a high-quality canned sardine, which retains all its taste properties».

“We have created a high quality product and brand for the coming decades. Through this long-term vision, we want to bring canning pride back to the Arade basin,” emphasizes Vincent Jonckheere.

Manuel Mendes explains that “the name Papa Anzóis® is inspired by a site belonging to the marine toponymy of the Algarve coast. We wanted to pay tribute to the fishing communities that, over the years, have identified the various fishing grounds with curious names. Hookahs®
it is an area located in the Barlavento region».

Until now, Conserveira do Arade marketed the Petiscadas Saboreal, shredded fish mixed with vegetables from the Algarve, preserved in glass jars. The cannery also launched the Familiar range, with canned foods in larger jars and similar content.

According to Conserveira do Arade, “Papa Anzóis® canned foods differ radically from cans produced on a large scale. Its artisanal production, in small controlled batches, makes it possible to develop a product of excellence».

Instead of pre-cooking, «we use a dehydration process, developed by us, in order to maintain the organoleptic properties of fresh fish».

In the production of Papa Anzóis®, «there is a respect for the treatment of the ingredients that can be seen in the rich, high-quality result of this product. The raw material, like its name, comes from the Algarve region».

Conserveira do Arade bets on production with ingredients purchased from local producers, thus ensuring the maximum freshness and quality of its raw material.

Conserveira do Arade is located in the Industrial Zone of Pateiro, in Parchal, in the municipality of Lagoa.

You can find the “Papa Anzóis®” preserves in the best stores and restaurants, or in the The company's website.
