Algarvio Luís Manhita launches “Memória Apagada”, a fado that wants to fight prejudices

Project now sees the light of day after 10 years in the fado singer's drawer "for lack of courage"

The Algarve fado singer Luís Manhita released this Saturday, 10 July, “Memória Apagada”, the fado that gave rise to his first video and that, “more than a story, it is a voice that carries within itself a feeling as ours as fado itself, love”.

With music by Alfredo Marceneiro (traditional fado – Fado Cravo), “Memória Apagada” invites you to live “a story like so many others where the fado singer shares, with great courage, his soul in a way that is sung in verses, which with his eyes closed so well we recognize it”, says Luís Manhita.

«If fado has the magic of making us feel Portuguese, this one is no different and assumes in itself the audacity of showing us that a feeling as dignified as love is, in all moments and circumstances, just love».

Celebrating 13 years of his career, the 44-year-old fado singer believes that his work can reach many people and show that, in fado, there is a place for everything and everyone, in an equal way, «because it's just nothing more than a love story, but it escapes the cliché of being a heterosexual couple in love. It is the love that I live and I could not tell another story».

With the release of this video Luís Manhita “made a dream come true”, showing that the art of fado is “the true meaning of the Portuguese soul, where everyone is equal and similar”. The fado singer hopes that "everyone understands that, in fado, all the pain, the sense, the love and the feeling are included."

“I know it's the story of many people”, exclaims Luís Manhita, stressing that “I would like that other people, especially in fado, also feel the freedom to express the love they live. That they are inspired and that, once and for all, we stop using each person's sexuality and gender to define them as such, or that we only look at them through the filter of sexuality to define their artistic and professional value," he concludes. the fado singer.

This was a project that spent more than 10 years in the fado singer's drawer "due to lack of courage", and which now sees the light of day, "showing not only the poet's soul but the truth of his memories and experiences".

Luís Manhita began his career as a fado singer in 1998, in the Algarve, through amateur fado competitions, promoted by local authorities. After winning one of the competitions in Vila Real de Santo António, in 2009, he became a professional fado singer.

She has performed in various concert halls, in various fado houses in Lisbon, Porto and in the rest of the country and abroad. In 2010 he was a finalist in the program “Nasci para o Fado”, by Filipe la Féria, broadcast live on RTP1. This year, Luís Manhita was a contestant on the program “All Together Now”, broadcast by TVI.
