Algarve integrates Atlazul cross-border initiative

Project aims to identify and promote the potential of blue growth, research and innovation and knowledge transfer

The Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Algarve) and the University of Algarve are part of the initiative “Atlazul – boosting an Atlantic coastal alliance for blue growth”, led by the General Secretariat of the External Action of the Council of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior of the Junta de Andalusia, this week launched publicly in Cádiz (Spain).

With the support of European funds, managed under the INTERREG Spain Portugal Program (POCTEP), the project aims to identify and promote the potential of blue growth, research and innovation and the transfer of knowledge.

On the other hand, in order to value the synergies between the various sectors of the blue economy, identifying the growth potential of each region, it is intended to create and define regional blue growth strategies and respective governance, as well as lay the foundations for execution future projects with European funds.

During the launch of the initiative, the Algarve region was present through the president of CCDR Algarve, José Apolinário, the vice-rector of the University of Algarve, Alexandra Teodósio, and Valentina Calixto, from the Regional Development Services department at CCDR Algarve .

From Portugal, the Atlazul project includes the Algarve and Alentejo CCDRs, the Algarve and Évora Universities, Sines Tecnopolo, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere and Docapesca- Portos e Lotas.
