After having spread music throughout the city of Faro during the two days, 15th and 16th of June, South Music is already looking to the future with the creation of an academy, for training, and a «program to stimulate itinerancy», to support young musicians.

The event brought together more than a hundred professionals from the music industry, from all over the country, to attend the s of the 33 musical projects in the Algarve region.

The festival "has achieved the goal we intended", with the organization now targeting "the preparation of the future of South Music", said Paulo Santos, vice-president of the City Council of Faro, in an interview with Sul Informação.

«Unfortunately, we would have liked to have 120 bands, but the physical space did not allow for these s all in the same space, in two days», he added.

Although they did not act in the format of ShowCase, the remaining bands will have their contacts, from next week, on the South Music platform, «for those who want to listen to them, for those who want to contact them and for those who want to hire them», added the mayor.

In addition, any project that wants to join the platform, you can do so, as it will be open to the reception of applications.

If, in this first year, the bands, selected by the panel of judges, participated in workshops training, one of the novelties for next year will be the creation of an academy for young musicians.

«We are going to create an academy, taking place sometime next year, that will address the various areas that we felt lacking in training by musicians and the sector. Thus, these young people will be able to grow up as artists, to be able to follow those dreams they intend and assert their musical product», explained Paulo Santos.

The academy's team, made up of professionals from the music industry, will provide advice and artistic follow-up to musicians and technicians, as well as promote their affirmation nationally and internationally.

South Music, aware of the difficulties that Algarve artists have in performing outside the region, will also create a program to encourage itinerancy, through a grant to support travel, accommodation and food.

This support is intended only for projects in the municipality of Faro, covering not only the area of music, but also «dance, theater, performance, cinema, circus arts, as well as other performing arts projects».

The Minister of Culture Graça Fonseca went to Faro this wednesday, June 16, having marked presence on the last day of South Music, through a visit to the festival space.

O Southern Music is an initiative of the City Council of Faro, Theater of Figures and Faro2027, relevant in the application process of Faro the European Capital of Culture 2027.
