Richard Marques is the new District operational commander of Faro of Civil Protection

Richard Marques was until now the commander of the Fire Department of Portimão

Richard Marques was sworn in on Friday as the new District operational commander of Faro of Civil Protection, in a ceremony that took place at the headquarters of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, in Oeiras.

The until now commander of the Portimão Fire Department will join Vítor Vaz Pinto, Regional Emergency and Civil Protection commander, and Abel Gomes, 2nd Regional Emergency and Civil Protection commander, in the district command structure.

According to the newspaper Algarve Marafado, this was an appointment that was already scheduled and was scheduled to be made official in October, but which was brought forward by determination of the national command, within the scope of the implementation of the new Organic Law on Civil Protection.

Richard Marques, 42 years old, has a degree in Environmental Management (Bio-resources), specializing in Emergency Management and master's degree in Risks and Civil Protection, finishing a dissertation on the implementation of warning systems to the population under the Tsunami risk .

Prior to his appointment to the regional structure, he held the functions of commander of the Portimão Fire Department and municipal coordinator of civil protection in this municipality.

«Began functions as Commander of the Fire Department of Portimão on May 1, 2014 and was on the second 5-year commission. He made a career as a firefighter at the CB of Faro-Cruz Lusa, from Infante (30 November 1989) to the level of Chief and was later appointed in that CB, deputy command and, later, on 1 December 2009, commander», according to the Fire Department of Portimão.

«After an intense and structuring journey of almost eight years, in search of the best operational conditions for the institution, Commander Richard Marques will now move to the Hall of Honor», concludes the corporation from Portimo.
