PSP reinforces policing in operation “Always Present Police: Safe Summer 2021”

Police will also make available the “Verão Seguro – Chave Direta” program

The Public Security Police (PSP) will reinforce until September 30 the policing close to the bathing areas, residential, tourist and commercial areas and main highways in the scope of the operation “Polícia Semper Presente: Verão Seguro 2021”, informed today, 18 of June, that police force.

In a statement, the PSP said that the operation “Polícia Semper Presente: Verão Seguro 2021” will take place in its area of ​​responsibility in Mainland Portugal and in all the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores.

«Although we are still in a pandemic context, it is expected that with the opening of the bathing season there will be a greater influx of people and vehicles to the bathing areas, as well as greater traffic on the main roads and a greater number of users of public transport , especially those that serve the bathing areas», refers the PSP.

Therefore, PSP will concentrate its operational capacity in order to increase the feeling of security in bathing areas, residential, tourist and commercial areas and main road axes.

The operation will have as areas of intervention the reinforcement of the police presence on beaches and bathing areas and other places of high frequency of people and prevention and inspection in the context of Road Safety, both in large family trips and in trips to and from the areas for summer and recreation (namely places of nightlife).

The PSP will also monitor compliance with the measures in force under the Covid-19 pandemic.

The police will also make available the “Verão Seguro – Chave Direta” program, which aims to secure the homes of families who are absent for vacation reasons.

This program is available at page, enabling homes to receive special attention from the PSP in periodic surveillance.

Last year, according to PSP data, 1.525 homes were the object of this program.

Also the program “Estou Aqui Criança”, which aims to facilitate “the reconciliation of children who have been temporarily lost with their family”, was made available by PSP.

According to PSP, this program, which has been in existence for nine years, currently has 23.441 active wristbands.

Within the scope of the operation, the “Operation PSP – Portugal Safer Place” will also be implemented, which aims to introduce to foreign citizens traveling to Portugal on tourism the PSP as a key partner in promoting their safety and providing a solid feeling of security .

In the note, the PSP calls on citizens to remain informed about the rules in force in the area of ​​public health, to follow the recommendations of the health authorities regarding the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the recommendations of the police in the with regard to safety and crime prevention.

It also recommends citizens to plan their holiday travel, trying to avoid high frequency hours and to drive cautiously, namely complying with the maximum speed allowed and using restraint equipment whenever traveling with children.
