Paderne Medieval Bridge to receive an artistic installation by Vanessa Barragão

The motifs for the tapestry of the work, made especially for GeoPalcos and at the invitation of the Municipality of Albufeira, focus on the local flora

An artistic installation, by Vanessa Barragão, from Albufeires, will be inaugurated this Friday, July 2, at 18 pm, at the Medieval Bridge of Paderne, in Albufeira.

The motifs for the tapestry of his new work, made especially for GeoPalcos and at the invitation of the Municipality of Albufeira, focus on the local flora and will be on display until 12 September, being one of the great invitations to turn Paderne's barrocal into a huge gallery in the open air.

This will be an «artistic textile installation made from natural Algarvian sheep wool, recycled wool from the textile industry in the North, resin and other materials, whose process, in addition to washing and carding the wool, also led the artist to opt for textile techniques. felting, textile manipulation and crochet», says the City Council of Albufeira.

«It is a great joy and great pride to be able to have on display in an outdoor space a piece by a young woman from Albufeire who has captivated more and more admirers of her art from around the world. Vanessa Barragão is an example for our youth, she has a rare talent and makes us great through her tapestries, especially this one, which gives life to the plants and flowers of our barrocal», says José Carlos Rolo, Mayor from Albufeira.

A higher education course launched the artist into the world of textiles, from which she has created artistic works that have traveled around the world, one of her creations already appearing in the Palacete de S. Bento, on a wall of the official residence of the former -minister.

GeoPalcos is run by the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira, through the municipalities and is the result of an inter-municipal application, led by AMAL, which brings together the 16 Algarve municipalities and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, which created Bezaranha – Cultural Programming Network, and which partially guarantees the financing, using the Regional Operational Program of the Algarve (CRESC2020).
