“Louletano” Tomás Contte wins the last stage of the International Douro Grand Prix

Emanuel Duarte (Tuna General-Tavira-Maria Nova Hotel) brings the local authorities shirt to the Algarve

Argentine cyclist Tomás Contte, from Louletano-Loulé Concelho, won the last stage this Sunday, 148 kilometers between Tabuaço and Lamego, of the Douro International Grand Prix.

The second best classified in the stage of an Algarvian formation was Samuel Blanco Prol, from Atum General/Tavira/Maria Nova Hotel, who finished today's tough run in 11th position.

But today was, in fact, the day for runners in Latin America, at the closing of the first edition of the Grand Prix Douro Internacional, as the Uruguayan Mauricio Moreira (Efapel) won the race.

Emotions ran high throughout the trip, as six riders left the peloton on the first climb of the stage, including the second and sixth overall, José Neves (W52-FC Porto) and Luís Gomes ( Kelly-Simoldes-UDO), respectively.

This race situation forced Efapel to work intensively. First to keep the leak under control, which was achieved because the difference never reached two minutes. Finally, to cancel the escape, which happened 20 kilometers from the goal.

At that moment, it was clear that Mauricio Moreira, supported by his teammates, had the victory practically guaranteed. It was then time for other protagonists to assume responsibility for leading the platoon.

Louletano-Loulé Concelho took over the operations in the final phase, downhill and under heavy rain, preparing the ground for the final point of Tomás Contte.

The Argentine, who, a week ago, won the ABIMOTA Grand Prix, responded in the best way, imposing himself in the fifth and final run of the Douro International Grand Prix.

The chronometer marked 3h29m35s when Tomás Contte arrived (average of 42,336 km/h). Iuri Leitão (Tavfer-Measindot-Mortágua) started two seconds away and Daniel Freitas (Rádio Popular-Boavista) spent another 11. Mauricio Moreira cut the risk in fourth place, 18 seconds from the winner of the day, and celebrated winning the final yellow jersey .

The overall individual podium, headed by Mauricio Moreira, also featured José Neves, at 39 seconds, and Tomás Contte, at 48. The Uruguayan from Efapel also won the classification by points.

Gonçalo Amado (Antarte-Feirense) was crowned king of the mountain, Gaspar Gonçalves (Tavfer-Measindot-Mortágua) won the flying goals, Rui Vinhas (W52-FC Porto) won the sprints classification and Emanuel Duarte (Atum General-Tavira -Maria Nova Hotel) takes the local authority jersey to the Algarve.

João Medeiros (LA Alumínios-LA Sport) finished the race as the best youngster and Filipe Campos (Santa Maria da Feira/Segmento D'Época/Reol) was the best member of the club teams. Rádio Popular-Boavista collectively triumphed.
