Loulé creates a team that will promote equality in the municipality

Under a protocol signed between the Chamber and the Committee for Citizenship and Gender Equality

Loulé created a Team for Equality in Local Life, whose task will be to promote equality in the municipality.

This new social response was born from a protocol signed in 2020 between the Municipality of Loulé and the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, with a view to implementing the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination 2018-2030 “Portugal + Equal” .

The team now created, in addition to promoting equality, will "ensure the implementation of the Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination, namely by proposing, designing, coordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the measures and actions developed under the protocol" , according to the Chamber of Loulé.

The initiatives to be promoted will be in line with the national strategy, which aims at "non-discrimination on grounds of sex and equality between women and men", the "prevention and fight against all forms of violence against women, gender and domestic violence” and “combating discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sexual characteristics”.

«The Municipality of Loulé is committed here to an issue that is crucial for the democratic state to function in its fullness», guarantees Vítor Aleixo, president of the Municipality of Loulé.

With this measure, «the importance of the proximity of the Municipality to the populations, with a view to implementing actions and measures aimed at promoting the policy of gender equality and opportunities» is reinforced.

The team members are: Marilyn Zacarias, councilor responsible for Equality; Dália Paulo, municipal director of Administration, Planning and Administrative Modernization; Júlio de Sousa, municipal director of Environment and Sustainable Development; Rute Nascimento, local advisor for Equality in the internal component and head of the Internal Audit and Quality Office; Helena Gomes, local advisor for Equality in the external dimension and chairman of the Board of the General Council of the EAPNE District Nucleus and member of the CPCJ; Sandra Vaz, director of the Department of Social Cohesion and Health; Teresa Machado, head of the People Management Division; Júlia Cardoso, representative of the Portuguese Association for Victim Support; Maria Lourenço, municipal deputy; and Nélson Brazão, president of the Boliqueime Parish Council.
