Rotary clubs deliver refrigeration equipment to Algarvian Refood centers

Initiative took place within the scope of a regional project of the Rotary Algarve

The Rotary Club of Faro announced this Monday, June 14, that it recently delivered to ReFood's cores Faro, Almancil and Albufeira, various refrigeration facilities, «in order to allow these institutions to have, in this period of increased economic and social difficulties, better conditions to support those in need».

This initiative took place within the scope of a regional project of the Rotary Algarve, and had the support of the Rotary Clubs of Estoi Palace International, Praia da Rocha, Olhão and also the Fundação Rotária Portuguesa.

«With the pandemic caused by Covid-19, which, in addition to health issues, has affected and is affecting the Portuguese population economically and socially, it is worth mentioning the spiraling increase in unemployment in the Algarve region that has placed hundreds of families in situations of economic vulnerability, forcing them to resort to food support provided by institutions such as Refood», says the Rotary Club of Faro.

In the municipality of Faro alone, ReFood has more than 300 volunteers, who daily help over 150 families, representing 420 people. The Albufeira nucleus provides support to more than 200 people and the Almancil nucleus to 120 families, totaling more than 250 people to be helped.

Against this backdrop, Bruno Lage, president of the Rotary Club of Faro, considers that «it is of crucial importance to provide this institution with the necessary tools, in this case, the reinforcement of its facilities with refrigeration equipment, namely, freezers, refrigerators and refrigeration cabinets, so that its volunteers can perform their merits on a daily basis and important work with the neediest families'.

Rotary, which belongs to the Rotary International movement, brings together more than 35 clubs around the world, with the mission of «serving others, spreading integrity and promoting goodwill, peace and world understanding through the consolidation of good relations among professional, business and community leaders».
