800 kilos of sardines seized in Olhão

The Guard soldiers "identified three men who were moving fresh fish in excess of catch." 

800 kilos of sardines were seized this Thursday, July 16, in Olhão. 

According to the GNR, "in the course of an inspection aimed at the preservation of marine species, safeguarding the fauna and flora of coastal areas, the Guard soldiers identified three men who were moving fresh fish in excess of capture."

Two fines were issued and the seized fish was later put on auction to proceed with the first sale regime.

The GNR recalls, in a press release, "that the capture of sardines must be carried out in order to guarantee, in the long term, the environmental, economic and social sustainability of fishing, based on available scientific data, and the exceeding of limits legally defined constitutes an infraction punishable by a fine of up to 37 500 euros».
