Ventania sweeps Lakes to bring you the World and the Elements

Festival «unparalleled in the national territory, always based on the key ideals of development and promotion of artistic activism»

Ventania – Barlavento Performing Arts Festival is back in the municipality of Lagos, from the 2nd to the 4th of June, returning to a program that deepens sustainability issues, bringing them to the artistic level.

In this, which is its 3rd edition, Ventania proposes to present “solutions to overcome some of the great challenges we face globally, but also in the Algarve region in particular”. In Lagos, the festival opens this year's edition, giving special emphasis to the disciplinary intersections inserted within the performing arts.

Following the WINDY creative process, in which artists residing in the Algarve are invited to carry out works of ecological reflection, Ventania opens this year's edition with an artistic installation that combines the work of ceramist Ricardo Lopes with a sound environment created by multidisciplinary artist Carlos Norton.

This creation counts on the collaboration of the work developed before the festival by the workshop “A Água na Terra”, in which a 3rd year class from the EB1 and JI School of Santa Maria de Lagos, coordinated by Ricardo Lopes, dedicated themselves to the exploration of a ancestral technique of underground irrigation through unglazed clay pots.

This is followed by the European premiere of the show “Ecosofía”, with the artistic direction of the Chilean Camila Rojas Cannobbio. Inspired by the philosophical strand that gives it its name, “Ecosofía” is a work built from a unique visual narrative that fuses acrobatics, dance, projections and sounds, as it involves the audience in a sensitive and immersive staging, which rejects anthropocentrism and invites you to contemplate the eco-cosmos and the universe as a living whole.

Taking on, in this edition, a strong dynamic of artistic co-creation with the Algarve community, Ventania presents a new debut in Lagos, in the form of a contemporary physical theater and circus project. It is “Uns amb Altres”, with the artistic direction of the Catalan artist Pau Portabella.

The show, which will tour the three cities of the Ventania Festival – Lagos, Lagoa and Portimão – addresses "fracturing social issues, such as freedom, individuality and the position of the individual in society", being starred by the recently formed Coletivo Ventania – a group of artists residing in the Algarve, versed in multiple performing arts, who came together with the purpose of forming an anchor project of collective creation in the region.

Ventania – Barlavento Performing Arts Festival once again assumes itself as «a festival without equal in the national territory, always based on the key ideals of development and promotion of artistic activism». The festival continues, still in June, in Lagoa, heading to Portimão, in September.

This is a festival promoted by TEL – Associação Teatro Experimental de Lagos, co-financed by the General Directorate of Arts, by the municipalities of Lagos, Lagoa and Portimão and by the Parish Council of S. Gonçalo de Lagos, in a local partnership with the ecosystem of performing arts from the Barlavento Algarvio.
