Surfers rescue four people who were dragged by the current on Odeceixe beach

Two of the victims were German, one Polish and one Portuguese

Four people who were dragged by the current and were in difficulties, on the beach of Odeceixe, were rescued and brought ashore by surfers and later helped by elements from different entities, today, Sunday, May 16th, around 13:00.

The victims, two of German nationality, one of Polish nationality and one of Portuguese nationality, all around 30 years old, "were in the water when, allegedly, they entered a boat and were dragged by the current", revealed the Maritime Authority National (AMN).

According to AMN, around 13:00, the alert was given, through 112, that four people were in difficulties on Odeceixe beach "and that one was in a situation of pre-drowning".

A picket from the local Command of the Maritime Police of Lagos, a vessel from the Lifesaving Station of Sagres, two vehicles from the “Seawatch” project, a vehicle from INEM and the Voluntary Firemen of Aljezur were sent to the site.

Upon arriving there, the elements of the different entities found “that the four victims were already on land, after having been removed from the water with the support of surfers who were in the area, with assistance being provided to the victims on the spot. One of the victims was then transported by an INEM helicopter to a hospital unit, in a stable situation».

The rescue operation was coordinated by the Captain of the Port and Local Commander of the Maritime Police of Lagos.
