IVAucher program starts in June with 200 million euros to return to taxpayers

Government says this is the "right" time to launch the program

The IVAucher program will be launched at the beginning of June, with the Government forecasting the return of 200 million euros to taxpayers “in the coming months” in VAT revenues related to consumption in the catering, culture and accommodation sectors.

“It didn't make sense to launch the program as we had initially thought, as early as the first quarter, as during the confinement it wouldn't be useful. But we understand that we are in a position to launch it now at the beginning of June and, in this way, allow people who consume in the areas of accommodation, restaurants and culture to accumulate the credit corresponding to the VAT they bear for, afterwards , they can use it in acquisitions in the same sectors, later on”, said the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition today.

speaking during the presentation of the Plan to Reactivate Tourism|Build the Future, Pedro Siza Vieira considered that, "with the reopening of activities and with the possibility of people being able to enjoy this type of consumption", this is the right time to launch the IVAucher, which "will also be very positive in stimulating demand" .

“Some time ago, in parliament, I said that our economic policy, taking into account the health condition, should now change its focus. Rather than indiscriminately supporting supply, preserving the productive capacity of companies and protecting employment, we should start to stimulate demand and focus our attention on the most affected sectors. IVAucher is a good example of this”, he maintained.

Referring to the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs more "details on how the IVAucher will work" - which should happen "in the coming days", he said -, Siza Vieira added only that the IVAucher has an allocation of around 200 million euros in the State's budget.

"This is what we estimate is the VAT revenue that we will return to consumers who consume in these sectors in the coming months," he said.
