Lewis Hamilton repeats victory in the Portuguese Formula 1 Grand Prix

Hamilton won his 97th career victory

This Sunday, Lewis Hamilton won the Portuguese Grand Prix in Formula 1, which took place at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. The British rider, who came out of second place on the starting grid, managed to repeat his victory from last season.

At the start, Valtteri Bottas took the lead, followed by Hamilton, but right at the end of the first lap, the Safety Car entered the track after an accident involving Kimi Raikkonen and teammate Alfa Romeo Giovinazzi.

The Finn lost the front wing and was the only dropout in the Grand Prix of Portugal.

On the restart, Red Bull's Max Verstappen passed Hamilton, the Brit dropped to third, but not for long.

In the 11th round, the world champion regained the second position, and in the 20th, he overtook teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Hamilton maintained the lead after pit stops, followed by Max Verstappen's Red Bull and Bottas' Mercedes.

The pilot who, the day before, had been the fastest on the Algarve circuit, had problems with the car in the final laps, was forced to stop again, but held the podium.

At the end of the race, Lewis Hamilton considered that this was a “difficult race both physically and mentally. I didn't have a good start and I lost a position after the restart, but it turned out to be a great result in the end».

With this triumph Hamilton now has 69 points in the championship and has widened the gap to Verstappen, who has 61.
