Athletes in the Algarve are champions of the bottom in canoeing

This is «one of the most emblematic and important events of canoeing»

Ana Bebiano and Oleksandr Olefirenko, athletes from the Algarve team Kayak Clube Castores do Arade (KCCA), and Carmen Garrido, from Grupo Desportivo de Alcoutim (GDA), became champions in the National Canoeing Fund Championship. The competition took place on the 22nd and 23rd of May, on the Tua river, in Mirandela. 

45 clubs and close to 800 canoeists participated in this competition, «one of the most emblematic and important competitions in canoeing. Of these athletes, 32 represented the KCCA, divided by different levels, according to the club.

Veteran athletes Ana Bebiano and Oleksandr Olefirenko, from Kayak Clube Castores do Arade (KCCA), stood out in the competitions in which they competed, ending up being crowned national champions.

Oleksandr Olefirenko was crowned champion in the C1 Veterano A category, beating the athlete Silvestre Pereira (Clube Náutico do Prado) by a large margin.

 

Oleksandr Olefirenko became National Fund Champion.

 

Ana Bebiano was crowned K1 Veterano A Female champion, after seeing her task made difficult by the athlete Beatriz Gomes.

In 4th place were the athletes Nadine Santos, in the initiated class, Inês Carapinha, in the children's, and Ruben Luís, in the cadets.

The Kayak Clube Castores do Arade was in 7th place in the collective classification, having reached 3rd place in the veterans competition.

As for Grupo Desportivo de Alcoutim (GDA), Carmen Garrido revalidated for the third time the title of national champion in K1 Veterano B Women.

Already Joana Ramos got the 2nd place in the K1 Junior Female race, becoming, again, national vice-champion.

In the case of the GDA, the president of Alcoutim City Council has already congratulated the athletes and the coach for the achievements achieved, highlighting the importance of these achievements in reinforcing the sporting image of the Algarve municipality.
