The Algarve Interpreter Guides Association (Agigarve) and the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos will promote training actions on the Algarve's geodiversity, with the first initiative taking place this Thursday, 27 May.

From 15 pm onwards, the first training action on the Algarve's Geodiversity will be given online by Luís Azevedo Rodrigues, director of the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos.

«We already have more than 50 entries from our colleagues, half from the Algarve, half from the rest of the country, which reveals a great interest on the part of Guias Interpretes in other areas of the Algarve, in this case of Natural Heritage», says the official.

As for Cristina Marreiros, president of Agigarve and the main promoter of these training actions, she explains that “we have promoted several training actions for our colleagues, not only because we have been “stopped, but above all to make known other areas of knowledge that allow diversify and enhance tourist experiences in the Algarve».

For the month of June, Interpreter Guides from the Algarve and the rest of the country will have a second training focused on the cities of Lagos, Faro and Tavira also on these issues, this time on Urban Geology and Paleontology.

“Cities were and are major consumers of geological resources. Churches, monuments, buildings and urban equipment are, therefore, privileged places for the dissemination of Geosciences, promoting scientific literacy, in what is called Urban Geology and Paleontology. In this way, the historic heritage of these cities is promoted and valued while providing the Interpreter Guides with geological and paleontological information that will allow these professionals to enrich the tourist experiences that national and foreign visitors have in and about the Algarve». explains Luís Azevedo Rodrigues, director of the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos.

«The Ciência Viva de Lagos, through these free actions, thus fulfills two of its objectives and missions: to promote scientific culture, on the one hand, and to be relevant for professionals of the biggest economic activity in the Algarve – tourism», he concludes.
