Future of Smart Cities will be discussed at the 2nd Online Bootcamp of Acceleration of the Algarve

The online opening session is scheduled for 15:00

The online conference “The Future of Smart Cities”, integrated in the 2nd Online Bootcamp of Acceleration of the Algarve, takes place this Thursday, 20th of May.

In this initiative “thematics related to the SDGs – Sustainable Development Objectives will be addressed”, says the Câmara de Portimão.

The online opening session is scheduled for 15:00 and will be attended by Luís Matos Martins, administrator of the Creative Territories, and Filipe Vital, vice-president of the Portimão City Council.

The debate, moderated by Teresa Preta, CEO of Creative Territories, will be online and entirely in English, with the participation of Cláudia Sousa Leitão, former national secretary of the Creative Economy of Brazil, who will share her perspective as governor, José Apolinário, president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, as the region's representative, Mário Velindro, president of the Higher Institute of Engineering of Coimbra, who will speak about the efforts of the academy in developing the theme in focus, and Miguel Pinto Luz, vice-president Mayor of Cascais, at the forefront of smart cities.

The “The Future of Smart Cities” conference aims to develop strong links with the community, by debating current issues with the participation of experienced speakers, thus allowing for a broader and broader discussion. Also within the scope of the 2nd Online Bootcamp of Acceleration of the Algarve, two talks about investment will take place on the 19th of May. The first, entitled “The Hunt for Success”, starts at 10:00 am and will have the participation of Pedro Andrade, founder and CEO of Hunter and member of “Forbes 30 under 30”, who will explain how he “hunted” an investment of 500.000 euros.

As for the talk “Funding Sources”, scheduled for 10:30 am, it will bring 'insights' about different forms of financing, with experts in different areas, such as Miguel Barbosa, Filipe Portela and Yoann Nesme, who will “exchange for kids" what is the business, o venture capital and the Crowdfunding, respectively.

In view of the pandemic situation that continues to be experienced, and similarly to what had already happened last year, the 2nd Bootcamp of Acceleration of the Algarve, whose first moment took place on the 21st and 22nd of April, is held online and results from a partnership between the Municipality of Portimão, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, GEN Portugal and the Creative Territories.

«There are 14 projects participating in the event, from Portugal, Brazil, Italy, Hungary, United Kingdom and Syria, mainly focused on the areas of Smart Cities, some of which are linked to StarUp portimonense, such as Link-a-Ring , which is implementing a temporary kitchen rental solution on the market. Located in Aldeia do Carrasco, it allows that, without initial investment, anyone can test their product or restaurant concept, without the risk of losing the amount invested”, says the Portimão Chamber.

As regards startup “Rejoice be genuine” is focused on promoting a conscious and sustainable consumer culture and wellness community. For its part, Teodósio Racing Academy offers experiences related to rally, including an educational driving component for young talents.

Also incubated at StartUp Portimão, the SWRS project is developing a compact and easy-to-install system, which allows gray water to be reused in toilet flushing. With regard to the Oh Maria! project, also incubated at StartUp Portimão, it intends to develop an app framed in social tourism, aimed at both local hosts and tourists who can enjoy differentiated gastronomic services in their homes.

The Atlas project, on the other hand, despite not being directly linked to StarUp Portimão, belongs to a young entrepreneur from Portimão taking its first steps and who regularly participates in the initiatives of the incubator in his homeland dedicated to youth.

This project is focused on carrying out maritime and touristic tours along the Algarve coast, in an informal and comfortable way, using an innovative and self-sustainable vessel.
