At least 45 workers on a farm in Albufeira are infected with Covid-19, following "an outbreak identified at the end of this week", he told the Sul Informação the Regional Health Authority.
According to the same entity, "the increase in cases registered today in the Algarve [61] is mostly related" to this outbreak. The positive cases identified are all asymptomatic.
"The outbreak was identified at first by regular testing by the company, which immediately contacted the Health Authority," which "visited the premises and confirmed that it had all the conditions," he added.
SIC, which advanced the news, was there and showed, in a report, the workers' accommodation area, in a visit provided by the owner of the farm, which confirms the existence of decent conditions for the installation of the personnel.
The workers in question, says the TV channel, who are, in total, 80, "mostly arrived from Nepal, but also from India, to work in this tomato, cucumber and courgette farm".
From the moment the outbreak was detected, the company, which «has everything legal, all workers have a work contract and comply with all the rules», took steps to mitigate the consequences of the outbreak.
"Right now, the company itself, in conjunction with the Local Health and Civil Protection Authority, has created the necessary conditions for all workers to be safely separated by degree of risk and complying with all safety and convenience standards for their isolation prophylactic,” according to the Health Authority.
“All negatives are in isolation in single rooms. All who are migrants are isolated in the place. The others, residing abroad, are isolated in their homes. The situation is being monitored by the Local Health Authority and is limited and controlled», assured the same source.
Meanwhile, the City Council also provided the company with “two prefabricated items to be used if necessary”.
