Albufeira promotes meetings between parents of children with disabilities

“From Us to Us” meetings will take place on the third Friday of each month

Parents of children with disabilities will have a space for dialogue in the Parque Lúdico de Albufeira to «talk about their problems, ask questions and exchange experiences», from tomorrow, Friday, May 21st, at 19:30 pm .

The “Espaço Integrar”, under the responsibility of the Municipality, will now host the “From Us to Us” meetings on the third Fridays of each month and allow these parents to talk to each other and to municipal technicians, even to « not feel so alone in this arduous task of caring for and educating a child with a disability, which requires so much attention within the family», according to José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.

«In these meetings there is a sharing between the parents and the technicians who run the sessions. This sharing is about their experiences, their fears, anxieties or positive achievements», describes the City Council of Albufeira.

«From the Municipality's technicians, information is given regarding existing social support, how and where to find or request it, as well as various programs of associations and institutions for each type of disability and current legislation for citizens and children with disabilities », he adds.

For the first meeting, just show up and register for the following meetings. Anyone wishing to obtain more information can contact the telephone number 289 599 684 or e-mail [email protected].

Albufeira has, «in addition to children with disabilities that do not affect their permanent integration into a regular class», children «with more profound disabilities who are part of the CAA'S (Learning Support Centers), that is, multi-disability units located in schools ».

In addition, «the Municipality provides various and regular support to citizens with disabilities who are in appropriate institutions or schools».
