400 queen bee cores delivered to beekeepers in disaster-affected areas

Offer is from Nestlé company

The first of 400 queen bee cores destined to 61 beekeepers from north to south of the country were offered by Nestlé, through its Nestum brand, on Thursday, as part of the campaign “Together for the Bees”.

According to the regulation of the initiative, beekeepers whose apiaries are located in regions affected by disasters and natural calamities registered in 2020 were selected.

The beekeepers eligible for this offer were selected through a competition that took place during the month of April, following the criteria defined by the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV), the entity that oversees the sector.

On the 20th, the first two nuclei were handed over, symbolically, to the Apicultural Post of the National Institute of Agrarian and Veterinary Research (INIAV), in Tapada da Ajuda, in Lisbon.

With this initiative, Nestlé "is contributing to the replacement of the bee population in these regions, also promoting the enhancement of honey and national bee products," according to the company.
