People from Quarteira no longer have to go to Loulé to arrange for the renewal of their citizenship card, driving license or to request a criminal record. The new Citizen Space was inaugurated this Wednesday, April 21, at the Municipal Center of Quarteira, and comes to show that the «State must be close to the people».

There are about 70 services that can be done in this Citizen's Space, which also allows, for example, to deal with requests to change the address, the digital mobile key or obtain the land register. To consult all services, click here

Created in «record time», around three months, the inauguration of this new center in the city of Quarteira was attended by Alexandra Leitão, Minister of State Modernization and Public Administration.

The government official visited the Space, considering that the public administration currently has to follow a maxim: proximity.

“The State, which we are all of us, has to be brought closer to the people. Get him out of Terreiro do Paço, which is more jargon than reality. The State has to be close to the people and this is a good example», he considered, in statements to journalists.

«The citizen can, in this new space, make more than 70 online services, from 13 different entities. Everything that is possible to do online can be done here with the help of specialized people who help with this work and its conclusion», he explained.

This was, moreover, an old aspiration of the people from Quartieri: to stop compulsorily going to Loulé to deal with matters such as the citizen's card or driving license.

For Telmo Pinto, president of the Quarteira Parish Council, this is, above all, a «service that helps people».

«Our parish is a reference in the Algarve and it is gratifying for us to realize that we are able, more and more, to provide support to the population», he considered.

For the mayor, «Quarteira needed this».

"We have a large parish, in terms of population, the needs are here and people need proximity services," he added.

Also Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, considered that “we all have to gain” with this approach of the State to the citizens.

“Services have to be close to the people – a friendly public administration has to be transparent, approachable and efficient. We all have to gain from this», he concluded.

This Citizen's Space will be open every working day from 9:00 am to 16:30 pm and has the following contacts: 289 315 235 and [email protected].
