Monuments of the Algarve reopen on Monday

On Monday, admission is free, but there is more news

The Fortress of Sagres, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe (Vila do Bispo) and the Roman Ruins of Milreu (Faro) will reopen its doors to the public this Monday, April 5th, after more than two months closed.

«To celebrate the reopening to the public of the monuments belonging to the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve (DRCAlg) and to encourage visits to these spaces, free entrance was approved on April 5th, and the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe will be Exceptionally open on Monday as this is the weekly closing day. In Milreu, visitors can talk to the conservators-restorers who are working on the mosaics,” announced DRCAlg.

This will not be the only “free” that this entity will give to the public. From Monday onwards, «entry on Sundays and holidays is free for residents of the national territory throughout the day (previously it was only until 14 pm)».

«Entry to these monuments is now free for the Portuguese Volunteer Firefighters, as well as for students of professional and higher education in the areas of historical-artistic areas and tourism, heritage and cultural management», adds the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

In addition to others already in force, "free access is maintained for former overseas fighters and their widows or widowers, Portuguese and European Union citizens in a situation of unemployment, for all citizens residing in the national territory, who in the calendar year , turn 18 years old, as well as for residents of the municipality where the monument is located'.

All the monuments are outdoors, «gathering the safety conditions so that children and adults can enjoy their spaces and get to know our heritage better».

This does not prevent certain rules from having to be complied with: Thus, «distance and the use of a mask are mandatory and frequent hand disinfection is recommended».

The three monuments have the safety guarantee granted by Turismo de Portugal through the “Clean & Safe” seal and follow the operating rules contained in Guideline 028/2020, from DGS.

As long as the obligation of collection is in force, in national territory, from 13:00, on Saturdays and Sundays, the monuments will only function during the morning period, until 12:30.

All information about monuments in the Algarve are available online.
