Lagos advances with Detailed Plans for downtown and Meia Praia

The decision to prepare these plans will be subject to a period of public participation

The Câmara de Lagos will proceed with the elaboration of Detailed Plans for the northern part of the city's downtown and for part of the territory included in the Urbanization Plan of Meia Praia. The decision was taken at the last meeting of the municipal executive, on 7 April.

The northern part of the city's downtown corresponds to the Planning and Management Operating Unit nº 5 (UOPG 5), of the Lagos Urbanization Plan, and has an area of ​​4,76 hectares.

This is «a strategic area of ​​intervention, considered for its location and potential as a new centrality of the city given the current location of the headquarters building of the City Council, the relationship with Avenida dos Descobrimentos and Ribeira de Bensafrim, being also one of the gates of entrance to the city”, emphasizes the municipality.

According to the approved Terms of Reference, this urban intervention has as its objectives «the scenic enhancement of the Lagos seafront; the redefinition of the role of the marginal, assuming itself as the riverside public walkway; the promotion of an urban reconversion process with the introduction of new functions that revitalize and renew this area; and the definition of the urban grid in blocks», adds the municipality of lacobrigense.

The Detailed Plan to be drawn up for this area has an execution period of 36 months, including the public contracting procedure, the drawing up of the plan itself and the consultation of entities, in accordance with the applicable legislation.

The development of the procedure is framed in the Major Options of the Plan and Budget for 2021, as well as in the Legal Regime of Territorial Management Instruments (RJIGT).

As for the elaboration of the Detailed Plan for UOPG 10 of the Meia Praia Urbanization Plan, it has an intervention area of ​​24,58 hectares, located in the parish of Odiáxere.

For the municipality, this Detailed Plan is «the opportunity to implement an area considered a priority, meeting the needs of a high-quality housing area in Meia Praia, with a view also to attracting investment for the municipality».

The deadline for its preparation is 15 months, including the Environmental Impact Assessment.

The decision to prepare these plans will be submitted to a period of public participation, for a period of 15 days, for «formulation of suggestions and presentation of information on any issues that may be considered within the scope of the respective preparation procedures».
