Young girl sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing and dismembering boyfriend in Algarve

The other defendant was sentenced to 4 years in prison, but exonerated from the crime of aggravated homicide

This Tuesday, Maria Malveiro was sentenced by the Court of Portimão to 25 years in prison for the death of Diogo Gonçalves, who was dismembered after being murdered in the Algarve, reports TVI24.

The other defendant in the case, Mariana Fonseca, Maria Malveiro's girlfriend, was exonerated from the crime of aggravated homicide, but was still sentenced to four years in prison.

According to TVI24, despite this, "the young woman is released, because none of the crimes for which she was convicted provides for preventive detention."

The defendants, a nurse and a security guard, were accused by the Public Ministry of the crimes of aggravated homicide, desecration of a corpse, two crimes of illegitimate access, one of computer fraud, simple theft and use of a vehicle.

They were suspected of having killed Diogo, in March of last year, to keep 70 euros that he had received in compensation for the mortal running over of his mother.

The young man's corpse was later dismembered and abandoned in two different and distant locations, the head in Pego do Inferno (Tavira) and the body on a cliff near Cabo de São Vicente. Nearby, the car of the ill-fated young man was also found.
