The Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Literary Competition, which is in its 15th edition, already has winners, in an edition that once again included the participation of students from school communities in the Algarve.
The initiative, jointly organized by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (Loulé) and Júlio Dantas (Lagos) Municipal Libraries, aims to «encourage students to read the writer's works, promoting her literary legacy, but also stimulate creativity of students in the areas of text and illustration», says the announcement of the winners of the competition.
The competition encompasses all schools in the Algarve region, and is aimed at students from the 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary education.
The works were submitted to the competition and «appreciated and evaluated by a jury consisting of Sara Coelho, councilor of the Lagos City Council, Rita Moreira, head of the Library and Archives Division, on behalf of the Loulé City Council, Vera Oliveira, on behalf of from the General Directorate of Books, Archives and Libraries, Rita Ribeiro, on behalf of the General Directorate of Schools – Algarve Region Services Directorate, and João Motta, guest author», reveals the press release sent to the editorial offices.
The awards ceremony will take place on the 8th of May at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, subject to strict hygiene and safety measures.
