Management of the riverside area and part of Meia Praia is transferred to the Câmara de Lagos

Under an agreement between the City of Lagos and Docapesca

The riverside area located on the banks of the Bensafrim stream and the initial part of the Meia Praia beach are among the port and maritime areas that will be transferred to the municipality of Lagos. 

The municipality of Lacobrigense “will receive the competence to manage the areas allocated to recreational nautical activities, as well as urban areas for tourist and economic development not connected to port activities”, following an agreement between Docapesca and the municipality.

The area that is now managed by the City Council «includes the entire riverside area located on the banks of the Ribeira de Bensafrim, namely the east and west sidewalks of Avenida dos Descobrimentos, the area of ​​Forte Ponta da Bandeira and Cais da Solaria, the Marina de Lagos and its water mirror, the land located between the Marina and the fishing port, bordering the merchants' warehouses, as well as the initial part of the Meia Praia beach», according to the City Council of Lagos.

"Within Docapesca, the management competences of the fishing port and the provision of services for the sale of fish at auction are maintained, as well as the pier and the entrance pier of the bar," he added.

Docapesca and the Municipality of Lagos «also agree to cooperate towards the elaboration of a single intervention project for the geographical area located between the Marina and the merchant warehouses of the fishing port, dividing the costs in proportion to the interventions to be carried out in each one. of the areas. The objective is to improve parking conditions and the image of that portion of the territory».

This territorial delimitation was identified within the scope of the work of a commission that included representatives of the Minister of State and Finance, the Minister of State Modernization and Public Administration, the Minister of the Sea, the Municipality of Lagos and the National Association of Municipalities Portuguese.

This commission “presented the Final Report, containing the proposal for the transfer of competences and the draft of the protocol, which identifies not only the areas, but also the infrastructure, goods and human resources to be transferred”.

The Commission's Final Report and the protocol draft were approved at the last meeting of the Municipality of Lagos, «requiring, for its effectiveness, authorization from the Municipal Assembly and subsequent ratification by the Government members responsible for the areas of finance, local authorities and of the sea'.
