Dismissed Elidérico Viegas will continue to lead AHETA until the end of his term

Elidérico Viegas, whose current term ends this year, resigned on March 29

Elider Viegas, outgoing president of the Algarve Hotels and Tourism Enterprises Association (AHETA), will continue to lead this entity until the end of the term that ends this year.

According to a statement from AHETA, signed by Carlos Cabrita, chairman of the General Meeting, this decision was taken unanimously on March 31, by the governing bodies: Board of the General Meeting, Supervisory Board and Management.

Elidérico Viegas, whose current term ends this year, resigned, on March 29, from the position of president of AHETA, which he had held since August 1995.

At issue, according to the resigning leader, was the "lack of solidarity" of the other members of the board, after an interview given to newspaper i.

In the statement released today, the association says that, "recognizing the difficult situation we are going through in the face of the current health, economic and social crisis", it is "essential for the association to intervene in the careful defense of the high interests of its members."

"AHETA's governing bodies, imbued with the importance of institutional solidarity, reiterate their commitment to maintain the best relationship with national and international associative entities and, in particular, with central, regional and local public administration bodies, ensuring the usual and the superior commitment of its leaders in favor of the recovery of tourist activity in Portugal and in the Algarve, in particular», he concludes.
