Canoeist Kevin Santos dos Castores do Arade will compete in Hungary

Athletes from the Algarve club highlighted in the Portuguese Speed ​​Cup

Kevin Santos, from the Algarve club Castores do Arade, categorically won the K1 200m event, in the Portuguese Speed ​​Cup, which was disputed last weekend.

Kevin thus won the right to participate in the continental qualifying test for the Olympic wave, which is being disputed in Hungary, on the 12th and 13th of May.

“Kevin Santos could be the third athlete from the Beavers to participate in the Olympic Games”, stresses the club based in the municipality of Lagoa.

In the same K1 200m event, the other Beavers athletes took 2nd place (Artur Pereira) and 4th (Iago Bebiano).

In qualifying for the places guaranteed previously, Fernando Pimenta did not need to compete, as no athlete wanted to participate in the 1000m selective, while Teresa Portela had a very difficult task, having beaten Francisca Laia by 0,12 seconds in K1 200m.

The Beaver team participated with 22 athletes in the competition levels, from Cadets to Seniors, having reached several A and B Finals.

The highlight goes to Kevin Santos' victory in K1 200m, but also to Emanuel Silva's bronze medal in K1 500m, behind João Ribeiro and Fernando Pimenta, from Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

KCCA managed to place four athletes in the 200m A final, with David Varela in 4th, Iago Bebiano in 5th and Artur Pereira in 6th.

In K1 500m, three athletes reached the final A, with Emanuel Silva in 3rd, David Varela in 5th and Artur Pereira in 9th.

In the Under23 level, Iago Bebiano took 3rd place in K1 200m.

Ruben Luís was also highlighted, when he qualified for the Final of K1 500m in the cadet class, where he ended up being ranked 9th and second cadet in the 1st year.

In the ladies, Ana Bebiano took 7th place in the final B K1 200m senior. Leonor Ramos 6th and Maria Wilkinson 8th in K1 500m Cadets.

The next competition will take place on the 9th of May, in Rio Arade, with the holding of the Regional Fund Championship, organized by the Municipality of Lagoa and Castores do Arade.
