Portimonense even scored first, but ended up losing 1-5 against Benfica, in the 28th round of the I League of football, played this Thursday, April 22, in Portimão.

With three wins in the last three games, Portimonense was the game in one of the best moments of the season. As for Benfica, after a good series, they suffered a defeat in the last round and the Algarvians wanted to try to take advantage of the damage caused by the slip of the eagles against Gil Vicente.

The first half had a Benfica with greater attacking momentum, but without great chances. Portimonense defended well and was taking the opportunity to explore the space on the back of the embodied centre-backs.

The first chance, by Benfica, came on the 28th minute, with a shot by Rafa, after a good combination with Pizzi, but the ball went a little too far.

On the side of Portimonense, at minute 43, the usual suspect appeared.

The play started in Aylton Boa Morte who dodged an opponent, made a pass to open for Beto and the striker of Portimonense fled the centrals and shot without chance for Helton Leite. It was 1-0, in another goal from Beto: the 5th in the last four games.

With a goal close to the break, it was to be expected that Portimonense would go to the changing rooms to win. But, in the last move of the first part, Pizzi drew for Benfica, in a play that started in Vertoghen, had a head assist from Grimaldo and a conclusion, inside the area, by the Portuguese midfielder.

The start of the second half brought a turnaround in the marker. Jesus launched Darwin and the Uruguayan international responded with a goal in the 50th minute. The striker was stronger than the defense of Portimonense, ran into the area and shot into the back of the net. The move prompted protests from the Algarve for an alleged foul, but the referee said nothing.

Benfica's second half was much better than what Jorge Jesus' team had shown in the first half. It is true that Portimonense even reacted to 1-2, with good chances from Beto and Maurício, for example, but it ended up being Benfica who made the third.

Inside the area, Seferovic received a cross from Diogo Gonçalves, shot hard and the ball only stopped at the back of the goal (64′).

The Swiss, who walks hot on his feet, didn't stop there and scored twice in the 73rd minute, giving the best follow-up to Grimaldo's low cross. With this goal, Seferovic is already the top scorer in the I League, with 18 goals scored, surpassing Pedro Gonçalves, from Sporting, with 17.

In added time, Portimonense had to concede the fifth goal that sealed the rout. Everton received a ball, passed Samuel and shot into goal, with the last to touch being Lucas. The final 1-5 was done.

With today's defeat, Portimonense maintains 32 points and 10th position, seven points above the waterline. In the next round, there is a big game between Farense and Portimonense, the Algarve derby. It will be on Tuesday, the 27th, from 21:45 pm.
