Beethoven, Harry Potter, Flamenco "bastard" and even Bruno Aleixo mark the diversity of Teatro das Figuras

Theater, dance, creative residency are also part of the varied program

The May program of Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, starts with the concert Hogwarts Music, which promises to guide the public «to the best known magic school in the world, through the music that so well characterizes the Harry Potter films», scheduled for Sunday, the 2nd, starting at 11:00 am.

According to the direction of Teatro das Figuras, this structure «enters the month of May with the dates and times of its programming adapted to the rules in force».

On the 6th, at 19:30 pm, the dance show will take place Fake friends, created by Miguel Pereira with the Catalan choreographer Guillem Mont de Palol, «in which they try to build a false semantic friendship relationship, positioning themselves in a space of contrast between what is similar and what is different, which results in a discourse absurd, delusional and fun using words, gestures and objects».

the humor show Unauthorized Biography of Bruno Aleixo, which was brought forward to Friday, May 7th, will start at 19pm.

The public will be able to watch «a biographical retrospective of the main moments of Bruno Aleixo's life, with unpublished videos, old videos (in which his bad temper is evident) and even testimonials from friends, family and oppressed personalities».

Humor gives way to music, in the show by the Luso-Helvetic trumpeter Leon Baldesberger and his project Meersalz, which presents grilled orange, the third album of originals, on May 13th, at 19:30 pm.

Considered the “Best of Swiss Jazz Bachelor” in 2012, the project has performed on renowned stages in Switzerland, Germany, Portugal and Spain and now brings to Teatro das Figuras a combination of minimalism, complex rhythms, harmonies and improvisation.

The performance concert of One Word Starting with N, Noiserv's last work published in 2020, which «takes a more confessional tone than the previous recordings and gets closer to the listener through its sound combined with the mother tongue», will be presented on Friday, the 14th, at 19:30 pm.

The next day, the musician returns to Teatro das Figuras to share his experience as a composer, in a record of conversation and dialogue with all the participants.

In May, the artistic residencies return to Ilha da Culatra. Luís Fernandes (musician, sound artist and cultural programmer) and Pierce Warnecke (visual and sound artist) will capture the environment and atmosphere of that very particular community and translate it into a sound record. On the 15th, the public presentation of the residence will take place to the population of Ilha da Culatra.

The music indie succeeds the classic, in Beethoven and Its Epoca, which will take place on May 20th, at 19 pm, with a concert in which large-scale chamber instrumental music manages to maintain all its intimacy.

As part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), this is a proposal that combines one of the most remarkable composers in the history of music with other famous musicians of his time. In this perspective, the Portuguese composer, pianist and pedagogue João Domingos Bomtempo (1775-1842), assumes an important role.

Maria Jose Llergo

The May schedule offers yet another online lecture, included in the cycle lives with art, on the 21st, at 21 pm, this time with Jesser Souza, who will share his stories and career in the arts, broadcast live on Facebook and on Teatro das Figuras' Youtube channel.

The theater proposals will close on the 27th, at 19:30 pm, with the presentation of Atlântico, a co-production shack, Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and Festival Citemor with Teatro das Figuras, which departs from a cruise from Portugal to Brazil, crossing an ocean that is a place of fables and monsters, challenges and overcoming difficulties.

This is a show by Tiago Cadete, a Portuguese artist who has lived between Portugal and Brazil and whose work is situated on the borders between the performing arts and the visual arts.

May ends with a music show, by the flamenco singer Maria José Llergo, on the 29th, presenting her debut album Salvation.

Her “Bastard Flamenco” puts her voice in the foreground, sweet and deep, floating in the ethereal and ambient electronic music, like a mantra: in addition to her commitment to her own roots, María José Llergo practices meditation, which allows her to contextualize a album that would otherwise be incomprehensible.

As has happened in similar situations, the tickets purchased are valid for the new dates and times.

The times may be redefined depending on the evolution of the established rules and communicated on the Teatro das Figuras official channels, namely the website and social networks.
