The Algarve has 89 fewer active Covid-19 cases than a week ago, now totaling 456, according to data released this Friday, April 23, by the District Civil Protection Commission.

Over the past week, the Regional Health Authority recorded 201 new cases of the disease while, in the previous week, between 12 and 19 March, there were 243 new cases registered.

The decrease in the number of new cases registered in the municipality of Portimão due to the Covid-19 outbreaks, which originated in civil construction, helped this decrease in new infections.

Even so, according to the cumulative incidence data at 14 days per 100 inhabitants, released today by the General Directorate of Health, the municipality of Portimo is still above the risk threshold, which, if kept for another week, will again impede progress in the deconfinement process. Currently, this county has 144 active infections, when, a week ago, there were 198.

Also at risk of not proceeding to the next phase, continues Albufeira, who has 62 active cases (a week ago there were 84).

next Faro, with 54 active cases, Loulé, with 47, Lagos with 26 and Olhão and Aljezur with 25.

Currently, only the municipality of Alcoutim has no active infections.

With regard to the number of deaths, there was one more over the last week, which brings the total in the Algarve, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 349.

The number of recovered people rose 269 in the last week, which means that, since March 2020, 20.430 people have already overcome the disease in the region.

In hospitals, the number of hospitalized patients has decreased (-7) and there are now 20. The number of people in need of intensive care remained at 8, while ventilated patients increased from 4 to 2 in the last week.

Finally, the number of contacts under surveillance decreased, from 1902 to 1658.
