Algarve chosen by movement that wants to show how holidaying is safe

"We are extremely proud to have been the chosen destination as an example to show that it is possible to continue traveling and tourism in complete safety"

The Algarve was the destination chosen by the “Save the Travel Industry” movement (Rettet die Reisebranche), an initiative that was born in Germany and which aims to show that it is possible to «travel and take holidays in safety at this atypical moment we are still going through».

In this context, six representatives of renowned travel agencies in the German market, which are part of this movement, are in the region until the next 25th of April.

«The invitation came from Turismo do Algarve and the tour operator Olimar who, recognizing the importance of this alliance and sharing the same concerns, saw here an opportunity to collaborate in pursuit of the objective in question and to consolidate the position of the region as a destination safe and fully prepared to receive tourists again», says the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA).

«Through this visit, participants will have the opportunity to get to know some of the main tourist attractions in the destination and observe, on the ground, compliance with the various health and safety measures that have been implemented throughout the region for prevention and control of the pandemic, since the arrival at the Airport of Faro, and that extend to all companies and activities related to the tourism sector», he adds.

Taking as its objective the fight for the future and survival of the tourism industry, the “Save the Travel Industry” movement “is having a great impact on the German market and is receiving a lot of attention from the specialized press, which is why the expectations around this visit to the Algarve are very positive».

“We are extremely proud of having been the chosen destination as an example to show that it is possible to continue traveling and tourism in complete safety”, says João Fernandes, president of ATA.

“This visit is a sign of recognition of all the work we have developed, together with the sector and civil protection agents in the region. We want those who visit us to feel safe and confident. We believe that the visibility of this action will help us to pass this message on to what is one of our biggest source markets», he adds.

During their stay in the Algarve, participants will travel through various parts of the region and carry out different activities that reveal the diversity and richness of the destination's tourism offer.

Walking along the Rota Vicentina, strolling along beaches with different landscapes, sailing on a catamaran in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, walking along the “7 Suspended Valleys” footpath, visiting local markets, discovering the flavors of Algarve cuisine, tasting wines regional and relaxing in various hotels are just some of the proposals included in the program organized by Turismo do Algarve, with a view to surprising German professionals.

During the visit, the various agents will be accompanied by a camera operator and a photographer, who will be responsible for capturing images and creating content, which will then be shared on social networks and on the website of the “Save the Travel Industry” movement.
