Fire risk increases from today until Wednesday

Due to the expected increase in temperature and decrease in humidity

National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) warned of the increased risk of rural fires as of today, Saturday, 27th, and until next Wednesday, the 31st.

At issue is the forecast of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere which, for the next 72 hours, forecasts “a meteorological picture of dry weather, with a gradual increase in the values ​​of maximum temperature and east wind”, according to ANEPC.

At the same time, the relative humidity will be low in the afternoon. As for the wind, it will be «moderate to strong up to 40 km/h during the night and morning in the highlands».

The IPMA also foresees a “temperature rise on the 27th and 28th of March, with an accentuated temperature range, which should continue until the 1st of April”.

"This meteorological scenario translates into an increase in fire risk indices until next Wednesday, March 31, with favorable conditions for the rapid spread of fires", summed up this authority.

In this way, the Civil Protection advises you to take extra care, namely in carrying out fires, which must be duly authorized and accompanied by local authorities.
