Refood Almancil challenges everyone to cook a little more to deliver food to those in need

This is an initiative created by Refood de Belém, but that the Almancil nucleus also wants to implement, in the city of Loulé

It is often said that “there is always room for 1 more” and that is exactly what Refood Almancil wants to put into practice. The institution has a new project in which volunteers go to anyone's house, collect the extra food made for dinner, and then deliver it to those who need it most.

This is an initiative created by Refood de Belém, but that the Almancil nucleus also wants to implement, in the city of Loulé.

Alexandra Brito, coordinator of Refood in Almancil, explained to Sul Informação that the objective is simple: «to get to help more people».

«The second confinement brought even more difficulties here, in some situations, and, with this new project, we are also expanding our area of influence a little, because we only moved from Almancil to Loulé», he said.

The concept of “there's always room for 1 more” is easy to understand. To participate in the initiative, just sign up on here, putting the address and the day on which the collection will be made: either Monday or Friday.

On the chosen day, Refood volunteers will collect the food at the home of those who make it, and then deliver it, on the same day, to the homes of people who are experiencing difficulties.

According to Alexandra Brito, there are already "some referenced", in a cooperation work with the António Aleixo Foundation.

Despite having had enrollments of volunteers for the collections, Refood de Almancil has not yet had anyone signing up "for donations", said Alexandra Brito, which has not yet allowed the initiative to take off effectively.

It is true that Refood Almancil has not had hands to measure for so much work. Currently, this institution is supporting about 250 people, once a week, with 60 volunteers.
