There were three hundred lawsuits filed by the Inquisition against the Farenses

"Faro under the sights of the Inquisition (31th-18th centuries)”, by researcher Daniel Giebels, is the theme of the lecture scheduled for Wednesday, March 30, at XNUMX:XNUMX pm, live on the Youtube channel of the Municipality of Faro.

Marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Inquisition in Portugal, the lecture is part of the cycle “Investigating, Knowing and Valuing…”, being promoted by the Municipal Archive of Faro, Municipal Library and Municipality of Faro.

In this communication, Daniel Giebels will analyze the more than three hundred cases brought by the Inquisition against the Farenses between 1543 and 1799, focusing on aspects such as the profile of the defendants, the crimes and the ecclesiastical and secular agents who collaborated with The court.

The Municipal Archive of Faro started, during 2020, the Cycle of Conferences Investigating, Knowing and Valuing, highlighting some important events, at a religious, economic, social and political level in our local and regional history.

This cycle aims to enhance Local History, making known the work of various researchers on the municipality, in particular those who had as one of their main sources of information the Documentary Funds of the Municipal Archives of Faro.
