PSD deputies want to know "why vaccination in the Algarve is so late"

Parliamentarians speak of "glaring asymmetries between regions with regard to the evolution of the vaccination process."

The Algarve deputies of the PSD will question the Ministry of Health to find out «because the vaccination in the Algarve is so late».

In a statement, deputies Cristóvão Norte, Rui Cristina and Ofélia Ramos stressed that “data from successive vaccination reports released by the General Directorate of Health (DGS) they reflect glaring asymmetries between regions with regard to the evolution of the vaccination process».

This data "has aroused anguish in the Algarve, a region that has the greatest delay in the vaccination process and has the lowest percentage of vaccinated citizens, either with regard to the first dose or with regard to the second," added the parliamentarians.

The Algarve, they stress, is even «the region that is most backward, registering half the percentage of the most advanced regions».

PSD parliamentarians also say that, according to the information they have obtained, "regional health entities have doubts about the criteria for distributing vaccines and do not understand which criteria preside over such significant differences relative to other regions."

Therefore, Cristóvão Norte, Rui Cristina and Ofélia Ramos understand that «it is important that the process is clear, that all citizens are treated according to their circumstances and that the reasons that lead to this undesirable result are removed».

They recall that "in addition to the crucial considerations of public health, there is also the challenge of the economic and social crisis, and the reopening of the region, which must be prepared for the brutal increase in mobility that will come in the coming months."

In its vaccination report released yesterday, the DGS indicated that, in the Algarve, only 8% of people have already been vaccinated with the first dose and 3% also with the second. Across the country, only in the Azores are the percentages of vaccination lower.
