Castro Marim supports building a home for people with Alzheimer's with 1 million

«The Alzheimer's Home is a priority project for this Municipality»

The Chamber of Castro Marim will support, with 1 million euros, the construction of a home for people with Alzheimer's and other dementias.

The work, which should begin shortly, has been one of the great intentions of José Cabrita, provider of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Castro Marim, who has been working for years in the pursuit of this project.

«The Alzheimer's Home is a priority project for this municipality. Due to its size and scope, this equipment will certainly be a reference unit for the entire south of the country», highlighted Francisco Amaral, mayor of Castro Marim.

This "is an infrastructure of the future, as average longevity increases and 50% of people over 90 years old suffer from dementia." The mayor also underlined the strong contribution to the local economy, as the construction of this Alzheimer's Home will allow the creation of around dozens of direct and indirect jobs.

It is a facility with the capacity to accommodate 70 people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in inpatients and 20 in Day Care. It will be structured in three action units: Residential Inpatient Unit and Day Unit ; Unit for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Intervention with Families and Unit for Training and Cooperation.

«It is the greatest municipal support ever to a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, concentrated in two years, on the scale of one of the largest works in the municipality. All of this is made possible thanks to the participation and solidarity of the people of Castro Marim, through their taxation of taxes, namely IMI», declared Filomena Sintra, deputy mayor of Castro Marim.

The mayor also added "that the construction of the Alzheimer's Home is also included in the municipal strategy of urban regeneration, as it provides for the demolition of an old factory and will give a new dynamic to this noble space in the historic town."

With a budget of almost 5 million euros, the project is included in the Action Plan of the ARU and PARU and is an investment financed by the PO CRESC Algarve 2020 program, supported by Portugal and the European Union, co-financed by the FEDER in 1.134.701,80, XNUMX euros allocated, added to the million euros of municipal support. The remaining amount is assumed by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, through equity and bank loan.
