The Chamber of Faro joined the movement "United Against Waste” and will challenge its partners, suppliers, employees and other citizens, with or without connection to the food sector, to also combat food waste.

The «sharing of good practices and the dissemination of information will be the main measures of the municipality», following the adhesion to this civic movement of national scope, revealed the Chamber of Faro.

“Unidos Contra o Desperdício” (Unidos Contra o Desperdício) “intends to draw attention to the issue of food waste and raise awareness among the general population of its importance. With an annual program consisting of various activities, it seeks to promote a change in attitudes throughout the chain of actors (those who produce, those who manufacture, those who transform, those who pack, those who transport, those who consume and those who discard waste)'.

The movement has the High Sponsorship of the Presidency of the Republic and brings together public and private entities.

Its founding members are: Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar Services of Portugal (AHRESP); Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED); Portuguese Association of Logistics (APLOG); Confederation of Farmers of Portugal (CAP); Business Confederation of Portugal (CIP); National Commission to Combat Food Waste (CNCDA); Portuguese Federation of Food Banks (FPBA); Lisbon European Green Capital; Refood and Zero Waste.

The municipality of Faro invites citizens to join the movement for free through the initiative's website.
