camera of Faro supports IPSS that manages UCCI Milreu in the purchase of personal protection materials

Municipality allocates a budget of 3 euros to IPSS, which manages the Milreu Integrated Continued Care Unit, in Estoi, for the purchase of individual protection materials

The Chamber of Faro approved the attribution of a one-off financial support in the amount of 3 euros to the Algarvian Social Development Foundation (FADS), for the purchase of individual protection materials, in order to ensure an adequate response in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At a chamber meeting held on March 1st, the municipality decided to support this Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS), dedicated to social and educational assistance for children and the elderly, which, among its social responses, includes the Unit of Milreu Integrated Continuing Care (UCCI Milreu), in Estoi.

This inpatient unit has a capacity for 51 users (40 long term and 11 medium term and rehabilitation) and provides support and health care to people with chronic illnesses or processes who are unable to be cared for at home.

The support of the Chamber of Faro thus, it allows «alleviating the budgetary constraints of this social response of the municipality, which does not have other financial means besides the funds transferred by the Social Security and Regional Health Administration to cover operating expenses», stresses the municipality.

UCCI Milreu was also forced to change routines and procedures to deal with the pandemic situation, "which implied an increase in general expenses, having faced a worsening of budgetary constraints due to a new increase in market prices and scarcity of products by suppliers».

This support is aimed at the acquisition of personal protective equipment and materials (complete protective suits, masks, gloves, gowns, aprons, disinfectant, FFP2 masks, covers shoes and disposable caps), which «allow for the continuity of the provision of adequate care and in security conditions in the context of the pandemic situation, responding to the commitments assumed with users, families and the State», stresses the municipality.
