Municipalities in the Algarve create a joint system for the purchase of local products

Project will cost 167 euros

The Algarve authorities are going to create a joint system of public purchases of local products to supply local and regional institutions, such as schools and Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS), among others.

The “Sustainable Food Systems” project “is based on short commercialization circuits, based on environmentally sustainable modes of production and consumption that promote biodiversity, traditional knowledge and healthy diets, with a strong focus on the Mediterranean diet”, announced AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, which is implementing the initiative.

The main actions planned are "the organization of short marketing chains, the structuring of the institutional food market at the municipal level and the implementation of two pilot actions in schools".

"Also planned is the realization of various information actions aimed at producers and training of cooks responsible for the preparation and provision of schools and the composition of a Regional Food Council," added AMAL.

To make this project a reality, this entity will invest around 167 euros, to be carried out between 2021 and 2022, an amount that is provided by AMAL and the FEDER (70%), through the CRESC ALGARVE 2020 Operational Program (Action Plan and Endogenous Resources Development), whose application has now been approved.
