Évora University students read Helen Mirren's Message on World Theater Day

Initiative is promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of Alentejo

The Regional Directorate of Culture of Alentejo (DRCAlentejo) celebrates World Theater Day, which takes place this Saturday, March 27, promoting the reading, in three voices, of the Message by Helen Mirren (United Kingdom), theater actress, cinema and television, with the collaboration of the Masters and Degree in Theater/Performing Arts, from the School of Arts of the University of Évora.

“The Message for 2021 focuses on the resilience of arts professionals and their capacity, resilience and courage to survive the pandemic,” stresses DRCAlentejo.

«Gheysla Nascimento, Master's student, Fabrisio Canifa and Constança França, undergraduate students, come to us from different latitudes where the Portuguese language becomes the word. It was the desire for Theater that led them to Alentejo. It was the love for the Theater that brought them together here today – in the way possible in such hard times – reaffirming that they can't wait … and they won't (des)wait!” adds that Regional Director.

The video can be viewed on the DRCAlentejo's webpage by clicking here.

One of the most important initiatives that mark the Theatre, on March 27, is the circulation of the International Message created for this purpose, through which, at the invitation of the International Theater Institute, the entity that instituted the World Theater Day, a figure of recognized merit worldwide shares his reflections on the theme of Theater and the Culture of Peace.

This year's message was translated into Portuguese by Ricardo Simões, director and artistic director of Teatro do Noroeste – Centro Dramático de Viana.
